BKW to build 70 MW solar capacity in Swiss alps

(Montel) Swiss utility BKW has plans to build 70 MW of solar capacity from six farms in the alpine region of Berne, Switzerland.

Three of the six projects had already received approvals from local municipalities, BKW said in a statement, without providing further details about costs or start dates.

When completed, the six solar farms would generate 100 GWh annually and help strengthen Switzerland's security of power supply, it added.

The projects would be eligible for funding under the Swiss Energy Act, according to the company statement.

In January, BKW announced the construction of Switzerland’s largest solar unit with a capacity of 35 MW, located near a runway at the Berne airport.
