Finnish company plans to build 140 MW solar plant on peat bog

(Montel) Finnish company Vapo Terra plans to build a 140 MW solar unit in an area previously used for peat production, with construction due to begin in 2025, it told Montel on Monday.

The company had secured the lease for a 313-hectare decommissioned peat bog from the municipality of Ilomantsi in eastern Finland, with construction dependent on the relevant permitting, it added.

The use of peat for energy production has decreased significantly in Finland in recent years and is no longer regularly extracted.
